Broiled French Toast

February 14, 2012

Here’s the French Toast recipe that I grew up with. It is made with thick slices cut from a loaf of French bread. I hope you enjoy the recipe!

Cut 6 slices from a loaf of French bread. Each slice should be at least 1 inch thick.

Place the slices in a greased oven-proof 9×13 inch pan.

Whisk together 3 cups of milk, 4 eggs and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

Pour this mixture over the bread making sure to soak the slices thoroughly. Let the bread stand for 5 minutes.

Flip each slice over using a tongs. Place the pan at least 6 inches under a heated broiler. Leave the oven door open about 1 to 2 inches.

When the tops of the bread are golden brown (about 5-7 minutes), remove the pan from the oven and flip each slice one more time. Return to the broiler. The French toast is ready when the second side is golden brown.

Serve with butter and/or syrup and enjoy!
